Telescope Gift for Newhaven Wind Farm Watchers

Newhaven Mayor Cllr June Dyer with the new telescope

Local people and visitors to Newhaven now have a grandstand view of the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm taking shape off the Sussex coast, thanks to a new telescope which has been installed at Castle Hill.

The telescope, which has been paid for by Rampion Offshore Wind Ltd, is located at the foot of the Coastwatch Tower, and provides spectacular 180◦ views from the wind farm in the west to Seaford Head in the east.

No coins are required to operate the telescope – it is free for all to use.  Town Mayor, Councillor June Dyer, said “this is a lovely gift from Rampion to the people of Newhaven and I hope everyone enjoys using it for many years to come”.

Rampion’s Chris Tomlinson said “there has been a high level of interest in the wind farm from Newhaven residents, so we hope the telescope will further encourage people’s curiosity, both during the current construction period and in the longer term when it is fully operational.”
